My Epiphany About Wedding Planning!

Wedding season is here! And recently one of my girlfriends got married to the love of her life in Jamaica! It was a beautiful wedding!

But I learned a few things about myself and also about being wedding coordinator. Before I continue, I want to give props to all the wedding planners/coordinators out there doing this everyday!

1. Being a wedding planner is HARD work. No one wants the bride or groom to be bothered on one of the best days of their lives, so you are left to take over every single issue that comes up. And I do mean every single one.

2. You become every single role, the coordinator, the assistant, the helper, the apprentice etc! With very limited time the day of the wedding, it’s all hands on deck! Everyone has more than one role! The day has to be perfect, so in order for perfection to occur everyone jumps in and that includes you as the planner.

3. Patience is REQUIRED. There are things that will not go they way it should. There are people you will work with who will make life very difficult. There will be those moments when you want to rip someone’s head off but you can’t. You’re there to deal with it so your client doesn’t.

4. You will forget to eat. I don’t know about you guys but when I’m in work mode, eating is the least of my worries. But I do recommend water, no point in being dehydrated and and working if you’re going to fall out.

5. Details matter. I say this again Details Matter! It’s better to take your time and do one thing instead of doing 20 million other things. Remember that smile on the bride and groom as well as their guest is the most important! People can tell when something is rushed and not given the correct time to fix it. People pick up on those little details! Make it beautiful instead of okay. Trust people notice!

6. Finally, know that everything will work out. Something will not go the way it should. And that is okay! It’s okay to be angry and stressed for 1.2 seconds, but after that brainstorm and improvise! Plan B may be even better than Plan A and that okay. In the end I promise it will all work out!
